Spain take Group E honours despite draw

AL BAYT, Qatar – Niclas Füllkrug scored a late equaliser as Germany fought back from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw with Spain in a thrilling World Cup Group E clash on Sunday.

The result leaves Spain top of the group with four points, while Germany move up to second with three points and still have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Spain took the lead in the 62nd minute through Álvaro Morata, who headed home a cross from Jordi Alba.

But Germany responded well and got their equaliser in the 83rd minute when Füllkrug fired home from close range after a cross from Serge Gnabry.

The draw means that Spain will face Morocco in the last 16, while Germany will play Japan.
