Nintendo Projects Further Sales Growth in the Coming Year
Nintendo's latest earnings report reveals that the Nintendo Switch is closing in on the PlayStation 2's record as the best-selling console of all time. As of December 31, 2023, the Switch has sold 137.4 million units globally, putting it just behind the PlayStation 2's lifetime sales of 157.7 million. Nintendo projects that the Switch will sell a further 155 million units by the end of its fiscal year in March 2024, which would bring its total sales to 292.4 million, surpassing the PlayStation 2's record.
The Switch's success has been driven by a number of factors, including its innovative design, which allows it to be used both as a home console and a portable device. The console has also benefited from a strong lineup of exclusive games, including Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Nintendo's projected sales growth for the coming year suggests that the Switch will continue to dominate the console market. The company plans to release a number of new games for the console in 2024, including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4.
